The Process
Your Wedding Journey Made Simple.
Marriage in Australia is defined as “the union of two people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life”. It is a significant milestone and one of your biggest decisions. The Attorney General Department provides some information that we will be sharing with you when we meet, to keep you inform on the process of getting married in Australia, relationship support services and some legal implications. This includes:
-
Before being married: pre-marriage education
-
Once married: family education & support; health & welfare benefits; changing your name, citizenship rights and taxation
To be married in Australia:
-
You must be 18 years of age (if you are between 16-18 years old, you will need Court order);
-
You are not in a marriage with someone else, either in Australia or overseas;
-
You understand the legal obligations of marriage and freely consent to marry;
-
You would meet the Celebrant to complete lodge the NOIM form at least 1 month before your intended marriage date;
-
You must provide the correct original identification documents to the Celebrant;
-
You don't have to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
Step 1: Lodging Your NOIM Form:
Meet with Maria Nguyen to complete and lodge your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) form at least one month before your ceremony date. If you are unable to provide 1 month notice, and require a shortening of time, you will need to apply and request approval from the Prescribed Authority otherwise the Celebrant cannot solemnise your marriage less than 1 month notice.
Step 2: Discuss Your Ceremony Inclusion
We will discuss the arrival of bridal party, the walk in, the asking, the exchanges of wedding rings and vows, the music, the guests seating's, the readings/poems, any additional cultural custom gestures, any other requests you and your families would like to include, the rehearsal and most importantly, the 2 witnesses to sign the marriage certificates with you on the day. Celebrant will then share, discuss and finalise the wedding scripts with you, the way you would like to be celebrated.
Step 3: Your Wedding Day
-
Celebrant would officiate your marriage;
-
Celebrant is available on-site 1.5 hours;
-
Celebrant PA is included to support the Celebrant's audio during the service.
Step 4: Post-Ceremony
We handle all marriage registration requirements and can obtain your official marriage certificate on your behalf
Your marriage will be registered within 14 days with The NSW Registry of BDM.
We can support and obtain the Official Marriage Certificate from The NSW Registry of BDM on your behalf. You will need to allow approximately up to 4 weeks to receive this certificate via Registered Post.
For Prospective Marriage Visa 300: we can provide you a confirmation letter to confirm your intention to be married in Australia with your overseas partner, following completion of the NOIM form with the Celebrant.
